VALS is contracted to the Attorney-General’s Department (Cth) to provide legal aid services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the State of Victoria. This three year contract commenced on 1st July 2010 and expires on 30th June 2011. VALS like the other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services are waiting for a decision from the AGD in respect of the future of the contracts.

VALS' Research, Planning and Development Unit is funded by the Department through the Law and Justice Advocacy Development Program.
