A National Human Rights Action Plan for Australia
Posted on Mon 28 February 2011Attached is the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (NATSILS) comments on “A new National Human Rights Action Plan for Australia: Background Paper”. NATSILS is the peak body for legal matters affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is a coalition of the following Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander legal services:
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (Qld) Ltd;
• Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement Inc (ALRM);
• Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT (ALS NSW/ACT);
• Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia (ALSWA);
• Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service (CAALAS);
• North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA); and
• Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service Co-operative Limited (VALS).
The attached submission contains information about NATSILS, a critique of the Framework, comments on the proposed approach and process of the Action Plan outlined in the Background Paper, comments on the human rights situation in States and Territories and recommendations for the Action Plan.
