Inquiry into the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities
Posted on Fri 1 July 2011VALS made a submission to Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee (SARC) for the review of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities 2006 (Vic). VALS argues for the strengthening of the Charter to include: self-determination rights; economic, social and cultural rights; and additional rights for women and children. VALS' submission also identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the Charter in its current operation with regard to the responsibilities of public authorities and the operation of the Charter in the courts (see end of page for a copy).
