Statement fromĀ Board of Directors of the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service

We are aware it has been reported by the media that ex- VALS CEO Wayne Muir was charged with 20 sexual misconduct offences. Mr Muir was stood down when VALS became aware of these allegations and later resigned.

We recognise the untold impact on survivors. We recognise the deep mistrust this news creates in our communities. We know how difficult it can be for survivors to come forward and share their stories. We acknowledge that these events occur as part of a legacy of violence against Aboriginal people.

If you have experienced sexual violence you can get help and support via 1800 RESPECT who provide confidential counselling and support services.
