VALS Statement on UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
Today we mark the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Out of respect for the survivors who have experienced torture and ill-treatment in custody, the 437 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia who have lost their lives since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody handed down its findings, and their families and communities, VALS calls on the Victorian Government to urgently take steps to prevent the torture, ill-treatment and deaths in custody of our people.
